| My KT used to run at around 420-430F all day long quite happily. I think that is getting towards the upper limit of ideal though?? |

Most people measure the cyl. head temp in Fahrenheit for some reason.
140C is around 284F so that would be way to cold. Are you using an Alfano sensor?
Also old gen cyl heads cant handle the heat like the new gen heads. I've heard around 380F is max for an old gen head. _________________ You win some, lose some & wreck some! |

Suggest you go to the Kartsport website and go to Reports - print off a copy of the article "Gauging your Gearing".
At 284 deg F you are either running way to rich or more than likely running too many teeth.
Old gen motor 390deg F, or new gen 420 deg F should be your target temp - and the sooner in the race the better (Then you have to keep it there , which is another story)
If you are at the track this Sat, I'll give you a hand getting it sorted.
Do you know what the carb pop-off and lever arm height is, and where do you start on the jets? What colour is the plug? |

i run a mychron so i guess the sensor would be the same. i usually run at 1 3 quarters on the low jet and just above a quarter on the high. we will be unable to come out to the track this weekend but thanks for the offer might try to catch up with you at the meeting.
the motor is an old generation, i think?????? but will find out from engine builder next time i see him.
thanks for the help guys most appreciated

You are probably too rich on your high speed jet, try shutting it off to between 1/8 and 1/4 of a turn.
For the low speed jet, as Chris says, the carb settings will determine how far out it needs to be, but like everything else in karting- Experiment. _________________ You win some, lose some & wreck some! |
